The first tulip.
There is just something special about tulips, maybe it's because they are one of the first showy spring flowers, maybe it's because they come up year after year without any help. The tulips in our yard are left from the people who lived here years ago.
When I was a little girl, we had one loyal red tulip that came up every year in the hosta bed. It was my favorite flower. One year I because absolutely furious at my brother because he pulled all the petals off. I thought he was deserving of the most severe of punishments, mom didn't.

Our first red tulips are up also. We had some daffodils last week. Only the fittest survive in my garden. I do not have a green thumb. The first two or three years my tulip garden I planted in the front of my house were so pretty, but now they are pathetic.
